Russian speakers in Grenoble: church, school, permits, rent

Yes, Grenoble has the addresses Russian speakers look for: the Resurrection of Christ parish on avenue de Vizille (notices in Russian and French), a Russian reading club at the city library and Kazakhstan's honorary consulate. The Vibe South of France chat is open to all of France: say you're in Grenoble.

Russian-speaking Grenoble: what’s here

The short answer: there are our people in Grenoble, and the local addresses have a character of their own. The Russian-tradition parish keeps the Old calendar and posts its notices in Russian and French; according to its website, the Droujba 38 association runs Russian classes for children on Saturdays; and about once a month a Russian reading club meets at the city library. Right now the directory for Grenoble and the nearby communes lists churches: 4; university faculties that teach Russian: 1; consulates: 1; groceries with food from several countries, Russia among them: 1. The Droujba 38 classes and the reading club aren’t in those tables; we cover them separately below.

Vibe South of France grew out of a chat for Russian speakers in Montpellier, and for now our meet-ups happen in the South. The chat itself has long had people from all over France, though. Post in the chat that you're in Grenoble and ask who of ours is nearby: questions about the Isère préfecture or a Saturday group for your child are best put to people who’ve already been through it.

Grenoble proper has 156,140 inhabitants (INSEE 2023 census), and its catchment area 727,380. It’s a tightly packed city, with 8,612 people per square kilometre. The préfecture, OFII, CAF and CPAM are all here, and the last three even share a street, rue des Alliés. On the official model, flats cost less than in Lyon, Lille or Strasbourg, and Lyon itself is an hour and twenty minutes away on an ordinary regional train.

Churches

Churches in our directory for Grenoble and the neighbouring communes: 4; of Russian tradition: 1.

Église de la Résurrection-du-Christ, the Resurrection of Christ parish, 5 avenue de Vizille, 38000 Grenoble. Archdiocese of Orthodox Churches of Russian Tradition in Western Europe (Moscow Patriarchate). The parish keeps the Old calendar: here the Exaltation of the Cross was celebrated on 27 September.

The schedule takes a little digging. The parish says it posts services six months ahead on a separate page of its website, but on 20 October 2026 that page was still empty, and the home page carried the latest notice, for September: on Saturday a moleben at 16:00 and the vigil at 17:00, on Sunday the liturgy at 10:00. The notices are in Russian and French (the parish doesn’t say which language it serves in), and extra services are announced on the home page too. So before your first visit, ask in the chat when the next service is.

One more thing: the church has a shop, and anyone can use it. It sells candles, icons, crosses, feast-day cards and Orthodox books in Russian and French, to buy on the spot while the church is open.

The other churches on the list belong to other traditions, and we don’t present them as Russian. The Ukrainian Greek Catholic community of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God (Pastorale de la Protection de la Très Sainte Mère de Dieu à Grenoble) worships in neighbouring Fontaine, on rue de l’Abbé Vincent. According to the eparchy’s page from March 2026, that’s two Sundays a month, with confession at 15:30 and the liturgy at 16:00; feast days move to the nearest Sunday. Which two Sundays, the eparchy’s page doesn’t say. The Greek parish of Saint-Georges (Ecumenical Patriarchate) is at 3 rue Général Mangin, 38100; the Greek Orthodox community of Grenoble was registered as far back as 1951. The Romanian parish of Tous-les-Saints worships in the Église Saint-Maurice on place Paul Éluard in Saint-Martin-d’Hères.

Russian: Saturday classes, the university and a reading club

Droujba 38 - Langue et Culture Russes. The association was registered in 2004. Everything else we know about it comes from its own website (as of 12 September 2026): in the 2026-2027 season it runs the children’s classes together with the Russian school “Boukva A”, on Saturdays, morning and afternoon, and term began on 12 September 2026. Children who don’t speak Russian have a group of their own, mainly for ages 4-6. Adults have separate classes, and now and then the association screens Russian films with subtitles. By its own count, 100 people signed up in 2025-2026.

We haven’t checked the address of the Saturday classes, so Droujba 38 isn’t in the table below. Ask in the chat, or the association itself, where the classes are held this year.

Université Grenoble Alpes. Russian is taught by UFR SoCLE on the university campus in Saint-Martin-d’Hères, bâtiment Stendhal, 1561 rue des résidences. The LEA licence has an English-Russian track, and you can start from scratch (parcours débutant russe); the LLCER licence has a Russian track, and the department is called Études slaves. ONISEP even lists a double licence: law plus LEA English-Russian.

  • Russe - licences LEA et LLCER (UFR SoCLE, Université Grenoble Alpes) - Russian at a university. 1561 rue des résidences, 38400 Saint-Martin-d'Hères.

A Russian reading club. This one isn’t a school, it’s a reason to talk about books in Russian. The Club de lecture en russe meets at the Bibliothèque municipale internationale, 6 place de Sfax, on Saturdays from 14:00 to 15:30, and the talk ranges over classics, contemporary novels and even essays. According to the Grenoble libraries’ website on 20 October 2026, the next meetings are on 14 November and 12 December 2026, then 16 January, 6 February, 13 March, 3 April, 29 May and 26 June 2027.

Other cities are in our directory of Russian schools. How to enrol a child in an ordinary French school is covered in our guide school and nursery in France, and getting into university in our guide to studying in France.

Where to buy Russian food in Grenoble

Épicerie Arax, 3 rue de Turenne, 38000. It isn’t a Russian shop as such but a grocery with food “from all over the world”: it opened in Grenoble in 1975 around Armenian products, and today the list of countries on the shop’s website includes Russia as well as Poland, Bulgaria and Romania. There’s buckwheat. It’s open Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00-12:00 and 15:00-19:00; mind the long midday break, from noon to three.

And two addresses not to bother with, even though the internet still shows them. The Erebouni shop at 1 rue Très-Cloîtres is still listed in directories of Russian épiceries, but according to the SIRENE register it closed on 31 August 2024. The Kalinka restaurant at 4 place Championnet also still turns up on aggregator sites, while SIRENE has had the business as closed since 31 October 2023.

You can also pick up buckwheat at an ordinary supermarket, labelled “sarrasin grillé”; the details are in our piece on where to buy buckwheat in France. If you know a shop in Grenoble with tvorog or kefir, tell us in the chat, and we’ll check it and add it to our directory of Russian shops.

Consulates: what’s in Grenoble and what’s in Lyon

In Grenoble itself our directory lists the Honorary Consulate of Kazakhstan, 28 cours Jean Jaurès, 38000. The French Foreign Ministry published its entry on 5 September 2025, with no opening hours, so arrange a visit in advance. Kazakhstan’s embassy and its consular service are in Paris, at 3 rue de Tilsitt and 59 rue Pierre Charron; the addresses are in our guide to Paris.

For the rest, the nearest place is Lyon, an hour and twenty minutes away by TER. It has the Consulate General of Ukraine (12 rue Germain, 6th arrondissement; opened on 9 July 2026), the Consulate General of Armenia (2 passage Feuillat, 3rd arrondissement), whose district includes the Isère, and the Honorary Consulate of Belarus (5 place Antonin Poncet, 2nd arrondissement). The details are in our guide to Lyon. Belarus has its embassy in Paris. For Russia, our directory lists the consular service of the embassy in Paris and the consulates general in Marseille and Strasbourg, but the Isère is in neither the Marseille nor the Strasbourg district. Phone numbers, websites and how to book are on the pages Russians in France, Ukrainians in France, Armenians in France and Post-Soviet diasporas in France.

Paperwork: the Isère préfecture and rue des Alliés

The Isère préfecture is on place de Verdun, and you get in only with an appointment. It takes most residence permit applications online, through ANEF, and a renewal goes in there in the window between 4 and 2 months before your permit expires (service-public, F2209). If your type of permit hasn’t been moved to ANEF yet, you book a counter appointment through the online module “Demande de rendez-vous étrangers en Isère”. Stuck with ANEF? The same préfecture has a point d’accueil numérique, also by appointment.

Then comes something handy for a newcomer: in Grenoble, OFII, CAF and CPAM are all on one street, rue des Alliés, at numbers 70-72, 3 and 2. Just don’t get CAF mixed up: it also has a point in the Cité des familles on rue de Belgrade, but that one is for parenting support and doesn’t deal with benefits. The general procedure is set out in our guides to the titre de séjour, OFII and visa validation, CAF and APL and the Carte Vitale and the Sécu.

Most residence permit applications are accepted online only, through ANEF. If your type of permit hasn’t been moved to ANEF yet, you book a counter appointment through the online module “Demande de rendez-vous étrangers en Isère”. The immigration and integration directorate is at the same address.

Work in Grenoble: who’s hiring

The GRENOBLE employment pool is a big one: 187 communes, from Grenoble itself to the mountain valleys of Isère. Employers here plan to hire 19,200 people over 2026; they themselves expect 43.9% of those hires to be hard to fill (the French average is 43.8%), and 23.6% are seasonal. This is France Travail’s BMO 2026 survey, carried out in October-December 2025, so it measures intentions to hire over the year. Don’t read these figures as vacancies open today.

OccupationHiring projectsOf which seasonal
Activity and youth leaders (Professionnels de l’animation socioculturelle)88064.8%
Home helps and care workers (Aides à domicile et auxiliaires de vie)8404.8%
Office and building cleaners (Agents d’entretien de locaux)75034.7%
Café and restaurant waiters (Serveurs de cafés restaurants)74058.1%
Kitchen assistants and all-round catering staff (Aides de cuisine et employés polyvalents de la restauration)73024.7%

Unemployment in the Grenoble employment area was 7.0% in the second quarter of 2026 (INSEE, provisional figures): lower than in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (7.2%) and mainland France (8.1%). Grenoble has 99,903 jobs within the city (2023 census): 54.1% in trade, transport and services, 32.0% in public administration, education, health and social work. Industry provides 9.6%, noticeably more than in Lyon (6.9%) or Paris (3.7%).

Who needs a work permit, how to register with France Travail (online or at an agency) and where people get hired without French: we cover it in our guide working in France; the SMIC and median pay are in salaries in France. And to find out which of our people work in your field, ask in the chat.

Renting: what a flat costs in Grenoble

On ANIL’s model (Q3 2025 listings), a flat in Grenoble averages €13.41/m² a month, charges included, and a T1-T2 €15.67/m².

In the official “Carte des loyers 2025”, Grenoble has a single line for the whole city. It is a model’s forecast, based on Q3 2025 listings, for a reference unfurnished flat with charges included: 52 m² for all flats and 37 m² for a T1-T2. Don’t read these figures as a median of deals; they’re closer to a guide to what landlords ask in their ads. The source is credited the way the dataset requires: “Estimations ANIL, à partir des données du Groupe SeLoger et de leboncoin”.

CommuneAll flats, €/m² a monthT1-T2, €/m² a month
Grenoble13.4115.67
Meylan15.4718.18
Saint-Égrève14.9815.13
Eybens14.6217.01
Seyssinet-Pariset13.8616.46
Échirolles13.5215.78
Saint-Martin-d’Hères13.5015.96
Le Pont-de-Claix13.0215.46
Fontaine12.7014.72

In money terms (our own arithmetic: the rate times the reference size), a 52 m² flat in Grenoble comes to roughly €698 a month and a 37 m² T1-T2 to about €580. Notice that the city itself is cheaper than most of the neighbours in the table, while Meylan asks €2.5 a metre more than Grenoble for a T1-T2. Only Fontaine and Le Pont-de-Claix are cheaper than Grenoble, plus Saint-Égrève for small flats. Larger flats (T3 and up) cost €12.21/m² in Grenoble on the same model. The sample is solid, 55,295 listings for all flats and 34,359 for T1-T2, but the 95% interval for a T1-T2 is wide, from 12.64 to 19.43 €/m².

For comparison, a T1-T2 in Grenoble costs €2.4-2.8 a metre less than in Lille (18.09), Strasbourg (18.18) and the most affordable arrondissement of Lyon, the 9th (18.43).

There is a rent cap, but not across the whole city. The encadrement des loyers has applied since 20 January 2025 in part of Grenoble-Alpes Métropole. Thirteen communes are inside the zone in full: Bresson, Claix, Domène, Eybens, Fontanil-Cornillon, Gières, Meylan, Murianette, Poisat, La Tronche, Seyssins, Varces-Allières-et-Risset and Venon. In eight more the cap covers only part of the commune: Grenoble itself, plus Échirolles, Fontaine, Le Pont-de-Claix, Saint-Égrève, Saint-Martin-d’Hères, Sassenage and Seyssinet-Pariset.

The current rates were set by prefectoral arrêté n° 38_2026_01_06_00018 of 6 January 2026 and apply to leases signed or renewed between 20 January and 24 November 2026 (service-public, F39137). On 24 November the experiment ends, and what comes next is up to the state. Which neighbourhoods of Grenoble fall inside the zone is shown only on the official map, annexed to the arrêté and built into the simulator on the Grenoble-Alpes Métropole website. We don’t list streets, so check your own address there. The upper reference rate is 20% above the standard one and the lower one 30% below, and both are calculated without charges, so don’t compare them directly with the table above. How to put together a rental file and what to do without a French guarantor is in our guide to renting in France.

Buying an apartment in Grenoble: price per m² in 2025 sales

The median price of a flat in Grenoble in 2025 was €2,487/m², almost the same as in 2024 (€2,500/m²). The figure comes from 2,538 sales in our sample, on DGFiP data (DVF, updated 12 October 2026), and the calculation is ours. Only ordinary sales (“Vente”) of a single flat went in, no new builds, so this is not the number of all sales in the city.

The median flat sold measured 60 m² and the median sale price was €130,000. Those are two separate medians, not one “typical” flat. By number of rooms the medians are: one room €75,000 (28 m²), two rooms €120,075 (48 m²), three rooms €158,270 (67 m²). There are only 56 houses in the sample, too few for an honest median, so we give no house price. The DVF price leaves out the agency’s commission unless the deed has the seller paying it, and taxes and the notaire’s fee come on top: how a purchase works is set out in our guide Buying property in France.

Social housing (HLM) in Grenoble: applications and waiting times

On 31 December 2025 Grenoble had 8,608 active applications for social housing, and during 2025 1,203 households got a home. That is about 7.2 applications for every one housed, against 5.8 across Grenoble-Alpes-Métropole. More than half of those housed in the city (56%) waited less than a year, and across the metropole their average time in the queue was 18 months. It is an average for people who already have a home, not a promise for a new application.

The délai anormalement long (the official “abnormally long wait”) in the Isère is 25 months for the Grenoble urban area and 13 for the other communes. After that you can go to the DALO commission, but unless you have some other ground, you will also have to show that your current home doesn’t fit your needs or your means (notice to form cerfa 15036). You apply at demande-logement-social.gouv.fr; how to keep the application going and renew it is in our guide Social housing (HLM). Source: SNE (data.logement.gouv.fr), data as of 27 March 2026.

Getting around: trams, two airports and trains

In short, from the SNCF Connect timetable for 21 October 2026 and the M réso fares:

Where toHowTimePrice

Lyon (Part-Dieu)TER, 29 a day1 h 21-24 min-
GNB airport - stationshuttleabout 40 min-
LYS airport - stationFlixBus, BlaBlaCar Busabout 1 hfrom ~€14
Around townM réso journey, one hour-€2

Since September 2024 all public transport in the conurbation has been one network, M réso: 5 tram lines (A-E), 14 Chrono bus lines (C1-C14), 31 Proximo lines and 55 Flexo lines, some of them on demand. There’s no metro. Trams run from 4:30 until one in the morning, every 4-10 minutes at peak times. In Grenoble itself the network is operated by M TAG under contract to SMMAG, the conurbation’s transport authority.

A journey costs €2 and gives you an hour with transfers anywhere on the network, Grésivaudan and Voironnais included; that’s the fare since 1 September 2026. Ten journeys are €17.10, a day €6.60, and buying from the bus driver or by SMS costs €2.60. Pay by bank card and you’ll never be charged more than €6.60 in a day. And a useful change from the same 1 September: the same ticket now works on TER trains within the metropolis.

There are two airports, and neither is in the city. Grenoble-Isère (GNB) is in the commune of Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs; according to the airport’s website, its flights go to the UK and Ireland, Warsaw and Vilnius, and it shows no domestic routes. A shuttle (Actibus is one of the operators) runs to Grenoble station in about 40 minutes non-stop: it waits right outside arrivals, and in town it stops in the coach station car park in front of the railway station. The operator strongly recommends booking; the fare is shown when you book.

The other option is Lyon-Saint-Exupéry (LYS). FlixBus and BlaBlaCar Bus coaches run from there to Grenoble, up to one an hour between 6:30 and 23:30 according to the airport’s page; it’s about 90 km and roughly an hour on the road. They stop at Oxford in the north of the conurbation and at the coach station in the centre, 11 place de la Gare; tickets from ~€14, but prices change. There’s a train too: some direct TGVs to Paris call at Lyon Saint-Exupéry TGV station by the airport, for instance the 12:47 from Grenoble gets there at 13:49.

Trains. A direct TGV INOUI to Paris Gare de Lyon takes 2 h 59 min - 3 h 01 min, with 7 such trains a day (SNCF Connect timetable for 21 October 2026); the rest involve a change and take longer, from 3 h 35 min. There’s no TGV to Lyon, only the TER to Lyon Part-Dieu: 1 h 21-24 min, 29 trains a day, nearly all direct, roughly every half hour, the first at 5:21. Coming back, the last train leaves Lyon at 23:20, so you can stay out for the evening without worrying. What awaits at the other end is in our guides to Paris and Lyon.

The climate. Grenoble sits in a valley: hot in summer, and in winter it often freezes. At the Grenoble-Le Versoud station (220 m), the yearly average is 12.6 °C, with 2.8 °C in January and 21.9 °C in July, about 35 days of heat at 30 °C or more and 67 days of frost, and 981 mm of rain (1999-2020 series). For comparison, Lille gets fewer than seven hot days and about 37 days of frost. This station has no sunshine data; at the airport 40 km away it comes to about 2,100 hours a year.

Our people in Grenoble and the chat

We haven’t held a meet-up in Grenoble yet, and we haven’t counted how many chat members live in the Isère. The community grew out of a single barbecue near Montpellier on 31 May 2025; after that came hikes, sea trips and Mafia nights, more than twenty meet-ups in all. You can see what they look like in Events and on the page of our home base, Montpellier.

The questions that come up most in the chat are about housing (guarantors, rental files, listings), the préfecture and residence permits, and the people answering are the ones who’ve already been through it. If you’re in Grenoble, Saint-Martin-d’Hères or Meylan, introduce yourself and ask who’s nearby: where the Saturday groups meet this year, how the préfecture booking went for people who applied recently. And if you’d like to get our people in the Isère together, suggest a meet-up in the chat: that’s how it all began for us, with one message.

Frequently asked questions

Are there Russians in Grenoble?
Yes. According to our directory, Grenoble and the communes around it have the addresses Russian speakers look for: the Resurrection of Christ parish (5 avenue de Vizille; its website posts notices in Russian and French, but doesn’t say what language the services are in), Russian at Université Grenoble Alpes, a Russian reading club at the city library, the Arax grocery with food from several countries, Russia among them, and Kazakhstan’s honorary consulate. According to the Droujba 38 association’s website, as of 12 September 2026 it runs Russian classes for children on Saturdays; we haven’t checked where the classes take place. We haven’t counted how many members of our Vibe South of France chat live in Grenoble: post in the chat that you’re here and ask who’s nearby.
Where is there a Russian-tradition Orthodox church in Grenoble?
The Resurrection of Christ parish (Église de la Résurrection-du-Christ), 5 avenue de Vizille, 38000 Grenoble. It belongs to the Archdiocese of Orthodox Churches of Russian Tradition in Western Europe (Moscow Patriarchate) and keeps the Old (Julian) calendar. The parish posts its service notices on its website in Russian and French; our sources don’t name the language of the services themselves. The latest notice, for September 2026, gave the vigil on Saturday at 17:00 and the liturgy on Sunday at 10:00. As of 20 October 2026 there’s no schedule yet for October to December, so ask in the chat when the next service is.
Is there a Russian school for children in Grenoble?
Going by the association’s website, yes: Droujba 38 - Langue et Culture Russes. According to that site as of 12 September 2026, in the 2026-2027 season the children’s classes run on Saturdays, morning and afternoon, together with the Russian school “Boukva A”, and they started on 12 September 2026. The site also mentions a group for children who don’t speak Russian (mainly ages 4-6) and classes for adults. We haven’t checked where the classes are held, which is why the association isn’t in the directory table; ask in the chat where they meet this year.
Where can an adult learn Russian or read in Russian in Grenoble?
Students can take Russian at Université Grenoble Alpes: UFR SoCLE (bâtiment Stendhal, 1561 rue des résidences, Saint-Martin-d’Hères) teaches it in the LEA licence, from scratch if need be, and in the LLCER licence. Classes for adults, according to its website, are also run by Droujba 38 (we haven’t checked where). And if you’d rather talk about books, there’s a Russian reading club at the Bibliothèque municipale internationale, 6 place de Sfax: Saturdays 14:00-15:30, with the next meetings on 14 November and 12 December 2026.
Where can I buy Russian food in Grenoble?
Our directory has Épicerie Arax, 3 rue de Turenne, 38000 Grenoble, Tuesday to Saturday 9:00-12:00 and 15:00-19:00. It’s a grocery with Armenian roots (open since 1975) selling food from many countries, Russia, Poland, Bulgaria and Romania among them, and it has buckwheat. Don’t head for 1 rue Très-Cloîtres: the Erebouni shop that some directories still show there closed on 31 August 2024, according to the SIRENE register.
Is there a consulate in Grenoble?
Yes, the Honorary Consulate of Kazakhstan, 28 cours Jean Jaurès, 38000 Grenoble (French Foreign Ministry directory); no opening hours are published. Kazakhstan’s embassy and consular service are in Paris. Lyon has the Consulate General of Ukraine (12 rue Germain), the Consulate General of Armenia (2 passage Feuillat, whose district includes the Isère) and the Honorary Consulate of Belarus (5 place Antonin Poncet). For Russia, our directory lists the consular service of the embassy in Paris and the consulates general in Marseille and Strasbourg, but the Isère is in neither the Marseille nor the Strasbourg district.
Where is the préfecture in Grenoble and how do I book a residence permit appointment?
The Isère préfecture is at 12 place de Verdun, 38000 Grenoble, Mon-Fri 9:00-12:00 and 13:00-15:30, by appointment only. Most applications are filed online through ANEF, and a renewal goes in no earlier than 4 and no later than 2 months before your permit expires. If your type of permit isn’t on ANEF yet, you book through the online module “Demande de rendez-vous étrangers en Isère”. For help with ANEF there’s the point d’accueil numérique in the same préfecture, by appointment.
What should Ukrainians with temporary protection do in Grenoble?
The steps for temporary protection are set out in our guide to temporary protection in France. In Grenoble you need the same addresses as everyone else: the Isère préfecture (12 place de Verdun, by appointment), OFII (Parc de l’Alliance, 70-72 rue des Alliés, when summoned), CAF at 3 rue des Alliés and CPAM at 2 rue des Alliés. Ukrainian consular services are in Lyon, at the consulate general at 12 rue Germain, and at the embassy in Paris.
Where are OFII, CAF and CPAM in Grenoble?
All three are on one street, rue des Alliés. OFII is at Parc de l’Alliance, 70-72 rue des Alliés, by summons. CAF de l’Isère is at 3 rue des Alliés (postal form 38051 Grenoble Cedex 9), Mon-Wed and Fri 8:30-12:30 and 14:00-16:30, Thursday until 12:30; phone 32 30. CPAM de l’Isère is at 2 rue des Alliés (38045 Grenoble Cedex 9), by appointment only, booked through ameli or on 3646.
Is there work in Grenoble for Russian speakers?
There are no separate figures for Russian speakers: France Travail’s BMO 2026 survey counts occupations, not languages. In the GRENOBLE pool (187 communes, mountain ones included) employers plan to hire 19,200 people over 2026 and consider 43.9% of these hires hard to fill; the most sought-after are activity leaders, home helps and cleaners. These are intentions for the year, not open vacancies. Unemployment in the Grenoble employment area was 7.0% in the second quarter of 2026 (INSEE, provisional figures). Who needs a work permit and how to register with France Travail is in our guide working in France, and to find out which of our people work in your field, ask in the chat.
Is the Vibe South of France chat for me if I live in Grenoble?
Yes. We started in Montpellier, but the chat has people from all over France, and there’s one link for everyone; joining is free. We haven’t held a meet-up in Grenoble yet, and we haven’t counted how many members live in the Isère. Introduce yourself and ask who’s nearby: where the Saturday children’s groups meet this year, or how the Isère préfecture booking went for people who applied recently.
How much does it cost to rent a flat in Grenoble?
In the ANIL model built on Q3 2025 listings (charges included, unfurnished), a flat in Grenoble costs €13.41/m² a month and a T1-T2 €15.67/m². For the reference 52 m² that’s about €698 a month, and about €580 for a 37 m² T1-T2 (our own arithmetic). Of the neighbouring communes, Meylan is the dearest (€15.47 and €18.18/m²) and Fontaine the cheapest (€12.70 and €14.72). Yes, but only in part of the city. The encadrement des loyers has applied since 20 January 2025 in part of Grenoble-Alpes Métropole: in 13 communes in full and in part of eight more, Grenoble itself among them. The current rates were set by prefectoral arrêté n° 38_2026_01_06_00018 and apply to leases signed or renewed between 20 January and 24 November 2026; what happens after that is up to the state. Whether your address falls inside the zone you can only see on the official map, which is annexed to the arrêté and built into the simulator on the Métropole’s website.
How much does it cost to buy an apartment in Grenoble?
By our own calculation on DGFiP open data (DVF, updated 12 October 2026), the median price of a flat in Grenoble in 2025 was €2,487/m², from 2,538 sales in our sample (ordinary sales, new builds excluded), and the median sale price was €130,000.
How do I get to Grenoble from the airport, Paris and Lyon?
From Grenoble-Isère airport (GNB, Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs) a shuttle runs to Grenoble station in about 40 minutes non-stop (Actibus is one of the operators; the fare is shown when you book). From Lyon-Saint-Exupéry (LYS) there are FlixBus and BlaBlaCar Bus coaches, about an hour, to the coach station by the railway station (11 place de la Gare), tickets from ~€14, prices change. By the SNCF Connect timetable for 21 October 2026, a direct TGV INOUI to Paris Gare de Lyon takes 2 h 59 min - 3 h 01 min (7 trains a day), while to Lyon Part-Dieu there’s only the TER, 1 h 21-24 min, roughly every half hour.
