Russian-speaking Paris: where it is

There is no single Russian quarter in Paris. Our people’s addresses are scattered across the city and out into the suburbs: the cathedral on rue Daru, Saturday schools in the 6th and the 15th, shops with tvorog in the 11th, the 14th and the 15th, a Ukrainian school in Vincennes, a Russian section at a collège in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. We’ve pulled them together on one page and checked each against its primary source as of 20 October 2026. Vibe South of France began in the South, in Montpellier, yet our chat now has people from all over France: tell us which arrondissement or suburb you live in and ask who of ours is close by.

Just moved? Below is what people tend to look for in their first weeks. Churches with service times, schools with their 2026/2027 fees, shops, consulates, the addresses of the préfecture, OFII, CAF and CPAM, rents by arrondissement and the way in from the airports. Where we haven’t checked something, we tell you.

What the directory holds now

The directory covers Paris with its suburbs, which here means INSEE’s catchment area of Paris: 13,320,752 people at the 2023 census. Right now it lists:

  • churches: 62;
  • schools and courses: 14;
  • Russian programmes at state schools (international sections and a lycée): 5;
  • university programmes: 8;
  • associations: 1;
  • shops with Russian food: 7;
  • embassies and consular sections: 12.

Entries still waiting to be checked against a primary source are kept out of both the count and the lists below, so in reality there are more addresses than this.

Churches in Paris and the suburbs

Churches of Russian tradition in the directory for Paris and its suburbs: 27, and 11 of those stand within Paris. The rest belong to other traditions: Romanian 17, Ecumenical Patriarchate 5 (including the Georgian parish of Saint Nino at 6-8 rue de la Rosière), Ukrainian Greek Catholic 4, Armenian 4, Serbian 3, Bulgarian 1 and Russian Catholic of the Byzantine rite 1. Romanian parishes are found both inside the city and all round the ring of suburbs, from Cachan and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges to Villemomble.

Rue Daru. Cathédrale Saint-Alexandre-Nevsky, 12 rue Daru (8th arrondissement), is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Orthodox Churches of Russian Tradition in Western Europe (Moscow Patriarchate). The All-Night Vigil is on Saturdays at 18:00; on Sundays the Hours and the liturgy start at 10:00. Between services visitors can come in on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 15:00 to 18:00. Down in the crypt, at the same address, a separate parish, Holy Trinity, serves in French. And on Wednesdays at 14:30 the parish Russian school meets there for children aged 4-16 (its new school year began on 30 September 2026).

Quai Jacques Chirac. Cathédrale de la Sainte-Trinité, 1 quai Jacques Chirac (7th), belongs to the Moscow Patriarchate’s Diocese of Chersonese. Sunday brings two liturgies in Church Slavonic, at 8:00 (together with the Hours) and at 10:00. On Saturday there’s a liturgy in French at 10:00 and the All-Night Vigil in Church Slavonic at 17:00; an akathist on Thursday at 17:00, and on Friday at 9:00 a liturgy in Moldovan. The cathedral is open every day from 14:00 to 19:00, and during services.

The 15th arrondissement. No arrondissement has more Russian-tradition churches than this one: three. Église cathédrale des Trois-Saints-Docteurs at 5 rue Pétel (Diocese of Chersonese) serves every day, morning and evening, and opens only for services. Église de la Présentation-de-la-Vierge-au-Temple at 91 rue Olivier de Serres and Église de Saint-Séraphin-de-Sarov at 91 rue Lecourbe belong to the Archdiocese, with the vigil on Saturday at 18:00 and the liturgy on Sunday at 10:00. The same arrondissement also has the Teremok school, on place du Commerce.

Elsewhere in the city. At Saint-Serge-de-Radonège, 93 rue de Crimée (19th, Archdiocese), the Sunday liturgy is at 9:30, the vigil on Saturday at 18:00 and vespers at 18:00 on weekdays and Sundays. Notre-Dame-Joie-des-Affligés et Sainte-Geneviève, 4 rue Saint-Victor (5th, Diocese of Chersonese), serves in French: the vigil on Saturday at 18:00, Matins and the liturgy on Sunday at 10:00, then catechism for children. Two parishes in the 16th publish no times at all: Notre-Dame-du-Signe, 87 boulevard Exelmans (Ecumenical Patriarchate, vicariate of Russian tradition), and Église de Tous les Saints glorifiés en Terre Russe, 19 rue Claude Lorrain (Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, ROCOR). The relics of Saint Helena rest in the church of Saint-Leu-Saint-Gilles, 92 rue Saint-Denis, and an akathist is read before them on Fridays at 16:00; when we looked on 11 October 2026, the parish page had no liturgy calendar for the autumn.

The suburbs. In Meudon, Église de la Résurrection du Christ, 8 rue des Bigots (ROCOR), has the All-Night Vigil on Saturday at 18:00 and the liturgy on Sunday at 10:00, going by its October 2026 schedule. In Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois, Église orthodoxe russe de la Dormition, 8 rue Léo Lagrange, holds the vigil on Saturday at 17:00 and the liturgy on Sunday at 9:45. The parish has a committee that looks after Russian Orthodox graves, and its office is open on weekdays 8:00-12:00 and 13:00-17:00. In Épinay-sous-Sénart, at the seminary at 4 rue Sainte-Geneviève, Sunday Matins is at 9:00 and the liturgy at 10:00, and visitors are also let in at weekends from 14:00 to 18:00.

The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Cathédrale Saint Volodymyr le Grand is at 51 rue des Saints-Pères (6th). Its liturgy is at 18:00 on weekdays (in French on Mondays), at 9:00 and 18:00 on Saturday, and at 8:00, 10:00, 12:00 and 17:00 on Sunday (except in summer). The Armenian cathedral of Saint-Jean-Baptiste is at 15 rue Jean-Goujon (8th), and in Alfortville, at 4 rue Komitas, services are held on Sundays and feast days at 10:30. There’s more on the pages Ukrainians in France and Armenians in France.

Feast days shift the timetable, and some parishes only publish a month at a time, so check with the parish or ask in the chat before your first visit. Every church in France is in our directory of churches.

A Russian school for your child

Paris gives you a real choice, and the schools publish their own fees. Gymnasium No. 1 (Gymnasium One Paris, 108 rue de Vaugirard, 6th) teaches children aged 2-18 every Saturday, all lessons in Russian. For 2026/2027 the fee is €259 a month for ages 2-4, €329 for 4-6 and €350 from age 7, paid in ten instalments from September to June; a second child brings 10% off, a third 15%, and clubs cost €20 a lesson. The Russian Classical Gymnasium (Gymnasium classique russe, 2 avenue Rapp, 7th) is a one-day school on Saturdays (its website also mentions Wednesdays), while its clubs run nearly every day of the week.

Teremok (École active russe Teremok, 4 place du Commerce, 15th) takes children aged 3-16 on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The little ones, from eighteen months, have the Bébé Club on Mondays, 9:30-11:30. Surprise (4 rue Titon, 11th) has more than 100 pupils aged 2 to 14: speech development from the age of two, then chess, drawing, music, choir and theatre for children up to 17.

Out in the suburbs, École russe MIR in Montrouge (3 rue de la Solidarité; 2026-2027 classes began on 16 September, 20% off for a second child) and MIR Franco-Russe in Châtenay-Malabry (7 avenue de la Division Leclerc; “MIRcredi” for ages 6-9 on Wednesdays 9:00-12:00) both teach on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Galaxy in Boulogne-Billancourt (30 rue de l’Ancienne Mairie) is open on Wednesdays from 8:30 to 18:00 and on Saturdays until 13:00, and ARCADE in Saint-Germain-en-Laye on Saturdays.

There’s also a way in through an ordinary French school: the Russian international section. In the 6th that means the Littré primary school (6 rue Littré, Russian within school hours, at least 3 hours a week) and the Jacques Prévert collège (18 rue Saint-Benoît); in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, the Marcel Roby collège and the Lycée international. How enrolment in a French school works in general is covered in our guide school and nursery in France.

For Ukrainian-speaking families there’s the Olena Viter school in Vincennes (16 rue de Strasbourg, ages 6-13) and Krila, run by La Maison Ukrainienne, in Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Saturdays; €409 a year for 2 hours, €529 for 3) and in Rueil-Malmaison (€349 a year per child). Adults can take evening courses in Russian and Ukrainian at Inalco (65 rue des Grands Moulins, 13th): 2 hours a week, 19:00-21:00, 60 hours over the year according to the 2025-2026 catalogue. Inalco appears four times in the list below, as the evening courses, Ukrainian, the Études russes department and the Eurasie department; the last one teaches Armenian and Georgian, not Russian. The full list is in our directory of Russian schools.

Where to buy Russian food

Shops with Russian food in the directory for Paris and its suburbs: 7.

For tvorog (farmer’s cheese), go to Slavmarket. There are two of them, at 19 rue Chanzy (11th) and 6 rue Poirier de Narçay (14th); their website lists tvorog, pelmeni, pickles and sweets, and both open Tuesday to Saturday 10:00-20:00 and Sunday until 14:00 (closed on Mondays). Svarog at 120 boulevard Voltaire (11th) is open every day from 11:30 to 21:00, for herring, sausage, tinned goods and caviar. Kalinka (7 rue Duban, 16th) has kvass, pelmeni and vareniki, though we haven’t confirmed its hours, so ask in the chat. Prestige Russe at 16 rue Lecourbe (15th), an épicerie et traiteur russe, lists tvorog, kefir, pelmeni, vareniki, khinkali and buckwheat on its website; we haven’t confirmed its hours either. Buckwheat and lavash are worth the trip to Meudon, to the Franco-Armenian NUR (45 avenue du Général de Gaulle, every day 9:00-22:00). Furthest out, in Melun (77), is Matrechka at 18 rue Saint-Barthélemy: we checked the address against the business register, but not yet what it sells or its hours. Other cities are in our directory of Russian shops.

Paperwork: Paris police préfecture, OFII, CAF, CPAM

Paris is a département of its own (75), so everything a foreigner has to deal with is inside the city. Residence permits for people living in Paris are handled by the Paris police préfecture (Préfecture de police de Paris). The general procedure and what all the acronyms stand for are in our Relocation section; below are the addresses that apply to Paris.

  • Préfecture de police de Paris - Service des titres de séjourgeneral préfecture address in the service-public directory: 1 bis rue de Lutèce, 75004 Paris · tel. 3430

    Residence permits for people living in Paris are handled by this préfecture’s Service des titres de séjour: that is the name service-public gives it under “Où s’adresser ?”. Applications go through the ANEF website; a “vie privée et familiale” card or a multi-year card is renewed online, no earlier than 4 months and no later than 2 months before it expires. The directory doesn’t say which building receives foreigners: the address will be in your appointment or summons. The steps are in our guide to the titre de séjour.

    Official site - Préfecture de police de Paris - Service des titres de séjour →

  • OFII - Direction territoriale de Paris (département 75)83 rue de Patay, 75013 Paris · Mon-Fri 8:30-12:00 and 13:30-16:30 (service-public directory, data as of 28 April 2025)

    You come when OFII summons you or gives you an appointment. Why OFII matters after you arrive is explained in our guide OFII and visa validation.

  • CAF de Paris - four reception points (family benefits and APL)50 rue du Docteur-Finlay, 75015 · 47 rue de la Chapelle, 75018 · 67-69 avenue Jean-Jaurès, 75019 (Laumière) · 101 rue Nationale, 75013

    All four: Mon-Fri 8:30-12:00 and 14:00-16:00, Wednesdays by appointment only (service-public directory, 24 February 2026). The postal address is for letters, not visits: Caisse d’allocations familiales de Paris, 75656 Paris Cedex 13. How to claim APL is in our guide CAF and APL.

  • CPAM de Paris (health insurance)postal address: Caisse primaire d’assurance maladie de Paris, 75948 Paris Cedex 19 · tel. 3646

    There is no single address to visit: the service-public directory lists 48 CPAM de Paris points, and most see people by appointment, booked through your ameli account or on 3646. For example, Plaisance at 19 rue Didot, 75014 (Mon-Wed and Fri 9:00-16:00, Thu 9:00-12:00; 2024 data), Batignolles at 28 rue Boursault, 75017 (by appointment), Saint-Martin at 2 impasse Boutron, 75010. Work in Paris: who’s hiring

Paris employers plan to hire 118,870 people over 2026. That figure is for the T1 Paris employment pool, which means the 20 arrondissements and nothing else: France Travail counts the suburbs, La Défense included, separately. Employers themselves call 29.4% of these hires hard to fill (the French average is 43.8%), and only 11.6% are seasonal. The numbers come from France Travail’s BMO 2026 survey, carried out in October-December 2025. They show hiring intentions for the year, not vacancies open today.

OccupationHiring projectsOf which seasonal
Artists: music, dance, stage (Artistes (musique, danse, spectacles))8,73011.9%
Kitchen assistants and all-round catering staff (Aides de cuisine et employés polyvalents de la restauration)6,97015.5%
Live entertainment professionals (Professionnels des spectacles)6,33017.4%
Café and restaurant waiters (Serveurs de cafés restaurants)5,75027.8%
Reception and information staff (Agents d’accueil et d’information)5,60017.1%

Two of the top three rows are the stage. Of the other big cities in our guides, only Marseille puts artists this high; elsewhere the top of the list is restaurants, cleaning and care.

Unemployment in the Paris department (which is the city itself) stood at 6.6% in the second quarter of 2026, against 8.1% for mainland France (INSEE, provisional figures). Paris has 1,811,126 jobs within the city (2023 census): 69.7% in trade, transport and services, 23.4% in public administration, education, health and social work.

Who needs a work permit, how to register with France Travail (online or at an agency) and where people get hired without French: it is all in our guide working in France, and the SMIC and median pay are in salaries in France. We don’t post job ads, but in the chat you can ask which of our people work in your field.

Arrondissements where our addresses cluster

Where you live will come down to work and budget. But if you’d like a church, a Russian school and a shop within easy reach, these are the arrondissements where the directory’s addresses sit closest together, with rents from the same ANIL model as the table further down.

  • 15th arrondissementThree Russian-tradition churches in a single arrondissement (rue Pétel, rue Olivier de Serres, rue Lecourbe), the Teremok school on place du Commerce and the Prestige Russe shop at 16 rue Lecourbe. ANIL model rents: €31.72/m² for all flats, €33.49/m² for a T1-T2; no other arrondissement has more listings in the model, 37,153.
  • 6th arrondissementThe Russian international section from the Littré primary school to the Jacques Prévert collège, Gymnasium No. 1 on rue de Vaugirard, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic cathedral on rue des Saints-Pères. One of the dearest: €37.89/m² for all flats, €40.17/m² for a T1-T2.
  • 8th arrondissementRue Daru: the Saint Alexander Nevsky cathedral, the Holy Trinity parish in its crypt and the parish Russian school on Wednesdays; the Armenian cathedral on rue Jean-Goujon, the embassy and the consular service of Kazakhstan. Rents: €36.09/m² for all flats, €39.07/m² for a T1-T2.
  • 11th arrondissementTwo shops with Russian food, Slavmarket on rue Chanzy and Svarog on boulevard Voltaire, and the Surprise school on rue Titon. Rents: €31.72/m² for all flats, €33.28/m² for a T1-T2.
  • 19th arrondissementThe most affordable arrondissement in the ANIL model: €27.70/m² for all flats, €30.02/m² for a T1-T2. The church of Saint-Serge-de-Radonège on rue de Crimée, Sunday liturgy at 9:30.
  • Saint-Germain-en-Laye (western suburbs)A Russian section at the Marcel Roby collège and at the Lycée international, the Saturday schools ARCADE and Krila (La Maison Ukrainienne), a Ukrainian Greek Catholic chapel on rue Armagis. We don't give rents for the suburbs.

Rents by arrondissement

On ANIL’s model (Q3 2025 listings), a flat in Paris runs from €27.70/m² a month, charges included, in the 19th to €37.89/m² in the 6th, and a T1-T2 from €30.02/m² in the 19th to €40.43/m² in the 4th. There’s no single rent figure for Paris in the official Carte des loyers 2025: the ANIL model works each arrondissement out separately. What it gives is a forecast of asking rents, based on Q3 2025 listings, for a reference unfurnished flat (52 m², or 37 m² for a T1-T2), charges included. It is an ANIL model, not a median of signed leases, and the actual rent for a given flat can come in higher or lower. For a T1-T2 in the 19th, say, the forecast is €30.02/m², with a 95% interval from €23.86 to €37.77/m². Estimations ANIL, à partir des données du Groupe SeLoger et de leboncoin.

The model puts the 19th at the bottom, and at the top the 6th for all flats and the 4th for a T1-T2. Turned into money for a reference T1-T2 (37 m²), that’s roughly €1,110 a month in the 19th up to €1,500 in the 4th, and for a 52 m² flat from €1,440 to €1,970. Those totals are our own arithmetic; the dataset has no official figure per flat. The 15th has the most listings in the model, 37,153.

Encadrement des loyers (rent control). In Paris, rents on leases signed or renewed since July 2019 are capped by reference rates. The current prefectoral order of 12 June 2026 runs from 1 July to 24 November 2026, and at midnight on 24 November the experiment itself comes to an end; as of 20 October 2026 we couldn’t confirm whether it will be extended. A landlord who breaks the rules can be fined up to €5,000 as a private individual and up to €15,000 as a company. One catch: reference rates exclude charges, while the table above includes them, so you can’t set one against the other. For the rental file, guarantors and Visale, see our guide to renting in France.

Buying an apartment in Paris: price per m² in 2025 sales

A square metre of flat in Paris sold for a median €9,677 in 2025, 1.4% more than in 2024. We worked this out from 29,515 sales in DVF, the open database of actual property sales: only ordinary sales of a single flat, no new builds, and the most extreme 1% of prices left out. So this is our sample, not every sale in the city. The median flat sold measured 42 m² and the median sale price was €387,000; those are two separate medians, not one “typical flat”. A one-room flat went for a median €202,000 (21 m²), a two-room flat for €350,000 (38 m²). Houses are rare: 151 in the sample, at a median €1,450,000 including the land. The agency’s commission is, as a rule, not part of the DVF price.

Social housing (HLM) in Paris: applications and waiting times

On 31 December 2025 Paris had 205,259 active applications for social housing, and during 2025 9,374 households got a home (ménages logés): almost 22 applications for every one housed. Those who got a flat had waited 49 months on average, and 48% of them three years or more. These figures describe people who have already moved in; they are not the wait a new application should expect.

In Paris the délai anormalement long (the official “abnormally long wait”) depends on the size of the home: 72 months for a T1, 108 for a T2-T3, 120 for a T4 or larger. Once it has passed you can turn to the DALO commission, but the notice to form cerfa 15036 makes clear that overrunning the wait is not enough on its own: you also have to show that your current home doesn’t fit your needs or your means. You apply, and renew once a year, at demande-logement-social.gouv.fr; who is eligible and which documents you need is in our guide Social housing (HLM): who can get it and how to apply. SNE data (data.logement.gouv.fr) as of 27 March 2026.

The city, the RER and the suburbs all come under Île-de-France Mobilités. RATP itself says it runs 14 metro lines, 8 tram lines and more than 300 bus routes (not every RER line is its own), under a 2025-2029 contract with IDFM. Since 1 January 2026 a metro, train and RER ticket costs €2.55 (reduced fare €1.30), a bus and tram ticket €2.05 (€1.05), and an airport ticket €14.

Charles de Gaulle (≈25 km from Paris). RER B trains run every 6-15 minutes from about 4:50 until midnight, the trip takes 25-30 minutes and the airport fare is €14. RoissyBus from Opéra closed on 1 March 2026 after 34 years. Its replacement, express bus 9517, gets you from Saint-Denis-Pleyel to RoissyPôle in 30 minutes on an ordinary bus-tram ticket.

Orly. Orlybus stopped on 3 March 2025, and now metro line 14 is the quickest: 25 minutes from Châtelet-Les-Halles to the airport, 40 from Saint-Denis-Pleyel. You can also take Orlyval to the RER B station at Antony (6 minutes, every 5-7 minutes) or tram T7 from Villejuif-Louis Aragon (45 minutes, 5:30 to 0:30).

Trains south. On the SNCF Connect timetable for 21 October 2026, direct TGV INOUI trains from Gare de Lyon take from 1 h 56 min to Lyon Part-Dieu, from 3 h 03 min to Marseille Saint-Charles, from 3 h 12 min to Montpellier Sud de France (from 3 h 29 min to Saint-Roch) and from 5 h 42 min to Nice. From Austerlitz, seasonal Intercités night trains do the rest: fall asleep in Paris and wake up in Nice, in Toulouse or, on Fridays, in Montpellier.

Climate, for anyone coming up from the South: by the 1991-2020 normals for the Paris-Montsouris station, the year averages 12.8 °C, with 634.3 mm of rain and 1,717 hours of sunshine.

Meet-ups and our chat

The community hasn’t had a meet-up of its own in Paris yet. The barbecues, hikes, catamaran trips and Mafia nights have all been in the South, mostly around Montpellier, a little over three hours from Paris on the TGV. Everything coming up is in Events, and if you’re in the South for a weekend, come and join us.

In Paris itself the chat earns its keep sooner than you’d expect. Which shop has tvorog in right now, which school still has a place in its Saturday group, how the préfecture appointment went for someone who applied a month ago. Tell us which arrondissement or suburb you’re in, and chances are one of ours lives nearby. Joining is free.

For people living in Paris, residence permits are handled by the Paris police préfecture (Préfecture de police de Paris) and its Service des titres de séjour. You apply online on the ANEF website; a “vie privée et familiale” card or a multi-year card has to be renewed no earlier than 4 months and no later than 2 months before it runs out. The service-public directory gives the préfecture’s general address as 1 bis rue de Lutèce (4th), but it doesn’t say which building receives foreigners: that address will be in your appointment. The steps are in our guide to the titre de séjour.

Is there work in Paris for Russian speakers, even without French?
There are no separate figures for Russian speakers: France Travail’s BMO 2026 survey counts occupations, not languages. Paris employers (the 20 arrondissements, suburbs not included) plan to hire 118,870 people over 2026 and consider 29.4% of these hires hard to fill; the most sought-after are artists, kitchen assistants and live entertainment professionals. These are intentions for the year, not open vacancies. Unemployment in the Paris department was 6.6% in the second quarter of 2026 (INSEE, provisional figures). Who needs a work permit, how to register with France Travail and where people get hired without French is in our guide working in France, and to find out which of our people work in your field, ask in the chat.
